I know in Georgia June is not known for its showers but I have been praying for rain. The rain is not just for my flowers and trees but for this parched land that has been ravaged by fire, as shown in this article about south Georgia. Since early this Sunday morning we have been smelling the smoke and we are in the northern part of the state.bridge_q.JPG

The picture of this bridge reminds me of home. There were many of these old stone bridges crossing ancient rivers, connecting two towns and telling many stories. This bridge also makes me yearn for a trip to the old world. Could this bridge be in England, France, Germany, Italy or maybe Spain? At the moment I can just dream, but I would like to take my wife and daughter to Europe one day. A trip to visit Barcelona, London, Florence, Athens, Zurich, and Prague. Yes, Anfield will be one of the stopping points.

This week we saw Liverpool qualify once again to the final of the Champions League. This time at the expense of a millionaire club that could not buy its way to the final. Jose Reina was the man of the match to seal the ticket to the Athens, Greece final with his signature penalty saves. The rival once again will be AC Milan with the classy Kaka and workhorse Gattuso.

I would have those two players at the Kop in red anytime. Hopefully a positive result in Athens will lure the likes of David Villa to Anfield. One lady with a great work ethic who has not become a Reds fan contributed to the beautification of our home with a new interior paint job and partnering with her team in handing the Premiership title to Manchester United. Yes, my wife, the Arsenal fan… I don’t think Baptista will be back to the Emirates next season.

We finally got some rain, we have needed it. South Georgia has felt the rage of a large forest fire for various weeks. Earlier North Georgia lost its peach crop to the late frost. Will the price of produce be going up? Probably not as fast as the price of gasoline… I don’t think I’ll be flying to Athens but I will listen to it on my Sirius radio.
