From the perspective of someone who just arrived to the host country of this sign, I would have to say I would be confused. I can recall when I first moved to South Florida from South America driving was not my thing. I really did not know how to drive. We did not need to. A great mass transit system and well designed cities along with our healthy lungs and legs kept us moving through our urban areas.

I like to send my Christmas cards early so I asked my neighbor if there was a Kmart or Walmart close by and he said, ” Oh yeah, right down the road. Just a few blocks.” A few blocks meant nothing to me in Ecuador, but

South Florida suburbs were not designed for the pedestrian. A few blocks meant an eternal hike in the humidity and scorching heat of Margate, Florida.

I knew I needed to get a car in the future so I could conquer those long blocks and be able to save time and sweat after being given ridiculous directions.
