Germans beat vikings and Argentina scores goal of the tournament
June 24 gave us my birthday, a delicious pineapple upside down cake made by my lovely wife, an tasty ice cream cake made by my mother-in law and two very good soccer matches.
The first match was decided in a short time with two goals from Lukas Podolski. Sweden had an opportunity to bring the game back, but Henrik Larson missed a penalty. 2-0 was the final score that included a ridiculous red card to Swedish defender Lucic.
Intermission between games was brought to you by my Sirius stations.
The next game was an intense meeting between two latin American teams. Mexico pounced early with a Rafa Marquez goal and Argentina was quick to respond thanks to a Borgetti ricochet that was credited to Chelsea forward Crespo. The 1-1 would take the two teams into overtime. Eight minutes into overtime Argentine maxi Rodriguez would take a Sorin center on his chest and one time it to the top right corner of Osvaldo Sanchez’s net. 2-1 and final score to see them through to the quarter finals versus the hosts. This Maxi goal up to now is the goal of the tournament.
