Ecuador and the Olympics
One of the reasons I enjoy watching the Olympics is not the Dream team. On the contrary, I wish the Olympic team sports were represented by amateurs. This gives a lot of the college and amateur athletes the opportunity to represent their country. The professional athletes are already in the limelight. The small Andean country of Ecuador became visible on the olympic map when Jefferson Perez won the gold medal for the 20 kilometer race walk in Atlanta 1996. Accomplishments like that are what give me the desire to continue to watch these over commercialized games. By the way you have to see this video from YouTube describing the Jefferson Perez victory- that is emotion.
What country will give us the great highlight other than the usual super powers?
